Our Executive Team:

Katherine N. Tom, MS, RDN, LD, CDE

President

Katherine Nashatker Tom is the President of North Texas Nutrition Associates. She is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and Certified Diabetes Educator with over a decade of experience helping people decide what they should eat!

In 2009, Katherine conducted her first tele-nutrition visit in Charleston, South Carolina where she started her career as a pediatric dietitian working to positively impact kids’ health in the areas of cholesterol and weight. A witness to the positive impact that tele-nutrition visits made on her patients’ health, Katherine began advocating on her dietitian peer’s behalf on the Hill for increased patient access to Registered Dietitians. She continued that advocacy effort as co-Legislative chair for her local professional association in Dallas. Katherine has shared her nutrition knowledge through numerous publications and papers including Therapy Times magazine, MyFitnessPal, and “All Things Considered” via National Public Radio.

Prior to opening North Texas Nutrition Associates in 2019, Katherine was the Director of Nutrition at Cooper Clinic where she provided nutrition counseling to adults and led a team of dietitians who worked in the preventative medicine space.  She also oversaw a comprehensive and medically supervised weight loss program at the Clinic.  Katherine earned a Bachelors of Science and Masters of Nutrition from Winthrop University.

Katherine’s experience is highly varied. Aside from providing nutrition counseling, Katherine has coordinated a multi-site diabetes education program recognized by the American Diabetes Association at Parkland as well as managed teams of dietitians in not-for-profit teaching hospitals as well as a for-profit business.  She has served as a preceptor to dietetic interns for 13 years, contributed to diabetes research through IRB studies, and worked with kids’ sports teams and School Improvement Councils to bring quality nutrition to the forefront of her community. Katherine is passionate about diabetes management and has partnered with adults and kids living with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes since she obtained her Certified Diabetes Educator credential.

Katherine’s approach to working with patients is built on the premise that no two bodies are the same and therefore there is no “one size fits all” approach to nourishing a healthy child or adult.  Katherine’s advice is individualized and evidenced based.  Katherine is an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Association and was named Outstanding Dietitian of the Year in 2014 by her Charleston Trident Dietetic Association peers.  In her free time, Katherine enjoys cooking, long distance running, and traveling with family and friends.
